Black-tailed jackrabbit skeleton

  • The skeleton of a black-tailed jackrabbit (Lepus californicus texianus).

Collected in McLennan Co., Texas by Judy E. Shuman and Bill R. Carruthers in 1968. Mounted for a Baylor Comparative Chordate Morphology class.

The black-tailed jackrabbit is a good runner and leaper, bounding over small bushes. However, when in danger, the jackrabbit prefers to sneak away close to the ground.
