About This Object
- A stone pendent carved in the shape of a human face. Possibly made in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica.
Purchased in Mexico.
Curious Facts
Mesoamericans used stone tools to cut or grind stone into a desired shape. Drill marks are visible in the corners of the eyes and mouth of this mask. These marks may have been used as guidelines for placement of the facial features.
