About This Object
- A freeze-dried specimen of a timber rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus).
Collected at the Pittsburgh Zoo, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania by Wade A. Meyer in November 1985.
Curious Facts
Timber rattlesnakes are possibly one of North America's most dangerous snakes, due to its long fangs, impressive size, and high venom yield. However, they have a fairly mild disposition and a long hibernation period in winter and often give warning before striking by rattling their tail.
