Ornate box turtle skeleton

• The skeleton of an ornate box turtle (Terrapene ornata ornata).

Collected from the Baylor University campus, Waco, McLennan Co., Texas by Dan Yazak and Harold Bammel in 1967.

The ornate box turtle is one of only two terrestrial turtles native to the Great Plains of the United States. Its existence is threatened in Illinois and of concern in six other midwestern states.
