South American tapir skull

• The skull of a South American tapir (Tapirus terrestris).

Donated by the Central Texas Zoological Park in 1969 and skeletonized and mounted in 1978.

The South American tapir is the largest surviving native terrestrial mammal in the Amazon. They are excellent swimmers and usually live near water.
